Breakthrough, Birman making Hinges of History series

Breakthrough Entertainment and Daniel H. Birman Productions are teaming to make a doc series based on Thomas Cahill’s best-selling book series Hinges of History.

The books look at key events that shaped Western Civilisation and Canada-based Breakthrough and US-based Birman will develop it as a multi-part series for TV.

“Cahill’s writing style gives us a deep understanding of the people he brings to life intertwined with historical developments that have shaped our culture,” said Birman. “His extraordinary historical perspective is the basis for a relevant and altogether unprecedented series,” said Birman.

“Thomas Cahill ranks among the most important scholars and historical writers of our era,” said Ira Levy, Breakthrough Entertainment partner. “At the same time, Daniel Birman brings to this extraordinary and compelling project a distinguished career in documentary filmmaking.”

Breakthrough is expected to handle international sales of the resulting series. No broadcaster is yet confirmed.
