Channel 4 developing Peep Show duo sitcom
Channel 4 may be soon losing its longest-running sitcom, Peep Show, but the UK broadcaster is already developing another comedy with the programme’s stars.
Comic duo David Mitchell and Robert Webb, who play the feckless Mark and Jeremy in Objective Productions-produced Peep Show, are working with Channel 4’s head of comedy, Phil Clarke, on new effort Back.
The show is being written by a Peep Show writer, Simon Blackwell, though Mitchell has told British press that the project is “at the very early stages”.
“It’s a very funny script – a sitcom – and it is our hope it will be televised,” he added. It would primarily differ from Peep Show it that I would be “very much more middle-aged” than its predecessor.
The ninth and final season of the critically-acclaimed Peep Show, which has been a big seller for distributor All3Media International, debuts on Channel on November 11, wrapping up the story of two loser flatmates struggling through life in Croydon, South London.
The show has been on air since 2003, though it has never scored exceptionally high viewing figures.
