Sony orders Filipino Cash Cab
Sony Pictures Television Networks Asia has commissioned a local version of Cash Cab, the profitable All3Media International format.
SPT’s show will air on its AXN pay TV channel from December, going into production this week.
Australia-headquartered ActiveTV, which was behind Cash Cab Asia and The Amazing Race Asia, will produce Cash Cab Philippines.
Starcom Mediavest Group is supporting the show, in which unsuspecting cab passengers become contestants in an impromptu gameshow, where the driver is the presenter. Popular local actor Ryan Agoncillo assumes the role of the quizmaster-cum-cab driver.
All3Media sells the show internationally, and counts the format as a key revenue-driver.
“Cash Cab Philippines is a localised adaptation of AXN’s very successful Cash Cab Asia, so the show will immediately resonate with our Filipino viewers,” said Ang Hui Keng, senior VP and general manager, SPT Networks Asia.
“The show continues our commitment to high quality original productions and sustains the momentum gained from The Amazing Race Asia, The Apprentice Asia and the record-breaking Asia’s Got Talent.
