SBS buys The Last Panthers
Australian pubcaster SBS has acquired buzzy drama series The Last Panthers.
The crime series, which was a copro between France’s Canal+ and Sky in the UK, follows the infamous jewel-robbing team the Pink Panthers and is set across various European locations.
The series is co-distributed by Sky Vision and Studio Canal who jointly announced the Australian deal. The series was also recently acquired by HBO Nordic.
Marshall Heald, director of television and online content at SBS said: “The Last Panthers is a sophisticated contemporary thriller with a truly international cast that will grip you from the very beginning, a perfect addition to SBS’s programming slate for 2016.”
The series premiered on Canal+ in France late last month and is now transmitting simultaneously across Sky channels in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Austria and Italy. SundanceTV joined the project in October as its US coproduction partner.
StudioCanal and Sky Vision launched it internationally at MIPCOM, with a red carpet screening.
