Report: Apple suspends TV service plans
Apple has reportedly suspended plans to launch a live,over-the-top TV service after struggling to agree terms with media partners.
According to Bloomberg, the technology giant has not permanently dropped plans for a slimmed-down, cable-style TV service, but has put them on hold because it has “run into resistance” from potential partners that “want more money for their programming”.
Apple was planning to offer a US package of roughly 14 channels for US$30 to US$40 per month, but will now focus on further establishing its App Store as a platform for media companies to sell content access directly to viewers, according to Bloomberg.
The news comes as Amazon announced yesterday its Streaming Partners Program, allowing Prime customers to access and pay for subscription services from major TV networks and content makers like Showtime, Starz and AMC.
