Banijay Tracks Billy Connolly
Banijay International has taken the international rights to Billy Connolly’s Tracks Across America, a three-part travel series following the popular comedian as he journeys across the US.
The 3x60mins show is produced by 7 Wonder, the UK-based prodco set up by Australian broadcaster Seven Network last year.
In the series, Connolly travels around the 28 states that make up the borders and coastlines of the US. It will go out on commercial broadcaster ITV next year.
UK-based Banijay International will take the series to market. Its vice-president of sales and acquisitions, Jimmy Humphrey, said: “Billy Connolly is very popular around the world, as proven by the international success of his two previous travelogues for ITV, and we’re looking forward to showcasing this fantastic new series to our clients as part of our continued strategy to expand our catalogue of world-class finished content.”
Banijay also announced it has picked up the rights to two other series. These are 8x30mins ob-doc Hatch, Match and Dispatch, which follows life in an Australian births, deaths and marriages office. It is produced by Fredbird CDK for the ABC in Australia.
The other show being added to the Banijay line-up is Killer on the Line. The 8x60mins series for Crime + Investigation in the UK examines true crime cases in which the killer made the emergency call themselves.
