Amazon bags classic X-Files for UK
Amazon Prime Instant Video UK has acquired all nine seasons of the original X-Files series, ahead of the reboot’s debut on terrestrial Channel 5.
Following a deal with 20th Century Fox Television Distribution, Amazon has launched all available episodes of the sci-fi drama, which aired between 1993 and 2002.
Viacom-owned Channel 5 acquired exclusive broadcast rights to the new six-episode run of The X-Files. Amazon has previously taken exclusive streaming rights to US shows such as Under the Dome and Extant in the UK, and may now make a similar move for the new X-Files episodes.
Fox plans to launch The X-Files in the US on January 24. Fox International Channels has rights in various territories, while CTV has it in Canada.
