Fox plans Euro copros out of the UK
The international arm of Fox is planning to work up European coproductions that will be made out of the UK.
Fox UK head of programming Toby Etheridge was discussing the copro plans at the Anglo-French Totally Serialized programming festival in London yesterday.
Asked whether Fox, which recently restructured its international operations, was in the market for European copros he said: “Yes we are,” he said. “[The strategy] is being led by Jeff Ford and they will be produced here [in the UK].”
Etheridge added that the copro partnership between Sky and Canal+, which has yielded shows including The Last Panthers (pictured) and The Tunnel, showed how European content companies could combine to make premium drama.
Ford joined Fox last year from Irish broadcaster RTÉ.
The Fox channel in the UK (fka FX) has run French-language cop drama Braquo with some success, although buying more foreign-language drama is not top of its agenda, Etheridge told the Totally Serialized audience.
“It would need to be something very special and that we fell in love with,” he said.
