Canadian producer buys kids distributor
Consolidation in the Canadian kids TV sector continues, with producer Sinking Ship Entertainment revealing it will acquire compatriot Picture Box Distribution.
This comes after Canadian toon giant 9 Story Media bought Ireland’s Brown Bag Films last year, and after Temple Street Productions yesterday regrouped as Boat Rocker Media, unveiled new toon arm Boat Rocker Animation.
Toronto-based Sinking Ship will pay an undisclosed amount for control of Picture Box, which already distributes the producer’s series This is Daniel Cook and Annedroids, which debuted on Amazon Prime Instant Video.
Picture Box partners Marilyn Kynaston and Kate Sanagan will join Sinking Ship to expand its distribution and sales division.
“Kate and Marilyn have always felt like a part of the Sinking Ship family,” said J.J. Johnson, partner at Sinking Ship and a former intern of Sanagan. “They’re risk eager, creative thinkers who represent shows with their hearts as much as their minds – we’re absolutely thrilled to have them both officially onboard.”
