Hulu captures 12 Monkeys

Hulu has acquired US streaming rights to Syfy series 12 Monkeys.

The on-demand service has picked up the first season of the show, a time-travel series loosely based on the movie of the same name.

Linear cable nets are increasingly shopping VOD and SVOD rights to shows ahead of the new season launches on their linear services, and Hulu will season one of 12 Monkeys on its platform on February 24, ahead of season two of the drama debuting on Syfy on April 18.

On Hulu the series will be on the US$11.99 per month premium ad-free tier, and the US$7.99 limited ads tier, but not the free service.

Hulu acquired the Universal Cable Productions-produced show from the distribution arm of NBCUniversal in a deal that also included sci-fi series Battlestar Galactica and comedy Saved by the Bell, which have launched on the streaming service.
