Sarah Wright upped at Sky
Sarah Wright has been promoted at Sky and is now director of acquisitions at the European pay TV company.
Wright has been at Sky since 2009 after joining from UKTV, and is being upped from her previous controller of acquisitions role. She was previously promoted in 2012.
She moves up as Gary Davey continues to put his stamp on the content side of the Sky business, having assumed control last year after the group’s European businesses consolidated.
In the newly created acquisitions role, Wright and her team will oversee rights negotiations and deals around the world, across TV and movies.
Sky has several output deals with the US studios as well as with HBO and Showtime, and these will be managed by Wright and her team, which is based in London and also has feet on the ground in LA.
Now working as one pay TV group across the UK, Germany and Italy, Sky is increasingly looking to acquire content for all of its European operations. Accordingly, Wright will work closely with the acquisitions teams in Germany and Italy, led by Rainer Ingber and Luisa Borella.
“Sarah and the team have done a brilliant job this year in expanding our market-leading entertainment offer,” said Davey, Sky’s managing director of content, said. “This has included extending our relationships with Disney and HBO and our new deal with Showtime.
He added: “Now we are a pan-European business, we are working with our content partners across multiple territories. With our expanded portfolio of products and services like Sky Q, NOW TV and Sky Store, we are delivering shows and movies in more ways than ever before.”
