Fox stocks up on Turkish drama for MIP
The distribution arm of Fox’s international channels division will have a raft of Turkish drama to sell at MIPTV.
Fox, which represents content from the Nat Geo and international Fox channels, has new episodes of popular Turkish drama That is My Life (O Hayat Benim locally).
The sales division is part of the recently expanded Fox Networks Group, which has replaced the Fox International Channels brand on a global level. It is distinct from the Twentieth Century Fox Television Distribution division run by Marion Edwards, which sells US cable and network content.
Pastel Film-produced That is My Life – a modern day Cinderella story – has proved popular on Sunday nights on free-TV channel Fox in Turkey, where it has run to four seasons.
Ahead of the market, Fox said it has sold the show to broadcasters including Kanal 5 in Bulgaria, Kanal D in Romania, MTG in Russia, Puls TV and Telemundo for the US Hispanic market.
“Local language drama, with great storytelling and excellent production values, is really getting noticed by international buyers and Turkey is providing a rich seam of popular content,” said Prentiss Fraser, Fox’s senior VP, global head of content sales said.
She added that Fox will have 700 hours of Turkish drama at the market. Its other key titles include Double Bliss, Cherry Season and Shades of Sacrifice (left). Fox said it has format rights for many of the dramas.
On the formats front, Fox’s lead title for the market is Sleeping with the Enemy.
The format sees pairs of singletons, who have been selected as having very different personalities, living together always remaining within two metres of one another. The couple that has worked best together, and remained most physically close, wins a romantic holiday.
It was developed by Fox Unscripted and produced by Stand By Me Productions for the Fox Life channel in Italy.
