Turner EMEA exec upped in MENA region
Turner Broadcasting Europe, Middle East and Africa has upped Tarek Mounir from his general manager post to VP.
Mounir (pictured) will now be VP and GM of Turner Turkey, Middle East, North Africa, Greece and Cyprus, and will report into Turner Broadcasting EMEA president Giorgio Stock.
Mounir has been with Turner since 2010, initially as regional commercial director, and was promoted to GM at the end of 2014.
“This promotion recognises Tarek’s role in aggressively developing Turner’s presence in the region and driving significant growth, across both free to air and pay TV platforms and in the non-linear space,” said Stock.
Under Mounir’s leadership, Turner’s channel footprint in kids, news and general entertainment as grown, with local shows such as Emirati cartoon Mansour and Kral Sakir in Turkey.
He also played a key role in the creation of Cartoon Networks Studios Arabia, and is credited internally with revitalising the Turkish business since taking it on 18 months ago.
“Tarek has done an outstanding job of building strong teams whose creativity and enterprise across Turner’s expanding Middle East portfolio have helped drive an overall growth trajectory in an increasingly important market,” said Rani Raad, president, CNN International Commercial.
