Nat Geo hires Homeland exec for drama push
National Geographic Channel has hired drama executive Hugh Fitzpatrick as it pushes further into scripted TV.
Fitzpatrick will be vice president, scripted development and production at Nat Geo, as the Fox-owned channel seeks to ramp up its drama output.
He joins from Teakwood Lane, Howard Gordon’s production company which is based at 20th Century Fox Television. While there his credits included Showtime series Homeland and FX’s Tyrant.
Prior to Teakwood, Fitzpatrick was vice president of scripted at the US production division of BBC Worldwide, and before that was a literary agent at WME.
He said: “National Geographic Channel is really making a mark in the television world with its move into premium programming, and this is an incredibly exciting time to be joining the team.”
The new recruit will report to Nat Geo executive VP and head of global scripted development and production Carolyn G. Bernstein, who recently joined from Endemol Shine Studios.
She said: “Our scripted offerings will continue to support the brand and build on our push into premium science, adventure and exploration programming.
“I’ve had the privilege to have worked with Hugh previously and know firsthand that he is the perfect addition.”
