Sony, C4 making Philip K. Dick drama series

UK broadcaster Channel 4 and Hollywood studio Sony are teaming to make Electric Dreams: The World of Philip K. Dick, an anthology series based on the titular sci-fi author’s work.

Breaking Bad star Bryan Cranston will exec produce the show, with Battlestar Galactica scribe Ronald. D Moore writing the series.

Moore has worked with Sony before on Starz drama Outlander.

Michael Dinner will join Cranston as an exec producer and the former will also join Moore on writing duties. They have both worked on Sony-distributed series Masters of Sex and Breaking Bad respectively.

Cranston said: “This is an electric dream come true. We are so thrilled to be able to explore and expand upon the evergreen themes found in the incredible work of this literary master.”

“As a long-time fan of Philip K. Dick’s work, it’s a tremendous honour and thrill to be part of this series,” said Moore. “His short stories are a treasure-trove of material for artists to draw from and I think this will be a very exciting project.”

Each instalment of the new series will be a standalone and will see Dick’s stories adapted for a modern audience. The show will debut on Channel 4 in the UK and Sony Pictures Television will sell it internationally.

Channel 4 chief creative officer Jay Hunt said: “The World of Philip K. Dick will adapt and modernise his singular vision for a TV audience. We are thrilled to be partnering with the talented team at Sony Pictures Television on an anthology series that brings together global stars of the calibre of Bryan Cranston and Ronald D. Moore.”

Dick’s daughter, Isa Dick Hackett, will also be involved in the TV adaptation of her father’s work.

“Often the source for big, high concept feature films, these short stories represent some of the most dazzling conceptual work of his career, and the fact that they will be adapted by such a diverse set of creative voices is truly an honour,” she said.
