Zig Zag preps Jamie Vardy series
UK indie Zig Zag Productions is making Jamie Vardy’s Having an Academy, a fact-ent series with British football star Jamie Vardy.
The Leicester and England striker is one of the top scorers in the Premier League and has become a star after helping propel 5000-1 underdogs Leicester to the league title.
He came to the Premier League through non-league football and then the lower leagues and his series with Zig Zag will follow the star and his V9 Academy as they scout for non-league talent that can make it in the ranks of the professional players.
“I’m looking forward to working with the Zig Zag Productions team on the documentary about the V9 Academy. I hope the series encourages would be footballers to give it another go and keep on fighting like I did” said Jamie Vardy, co founder V9 Academy.
The V9 Academy will take in 42 players who are then split into three teams and compete during a five-day course.
The three-part series will go behind the scenes as the players are put through their paces and watched by professional scouts.
Zig Zag will produce although no broadcaster is yet attached. The indie has a development deal with Fleet Street Sports and Media, which is run by former professional footballer Niall Quinn.
“Jamie Vardy is the biggest success in world football at the moment, having risen from a non league player to becoming a Premier League champion with Leicester City,” said Danny Fenton, CEO Zig Zag Productions.
“He’s now launching his own Academy to help players rise up from the non league to become elite professionals and Zig Zag will be there to film the journey.
Zig Zag’s other sports shows include Fashanu’s Football Challenge, Eddie Jordan’s Bad Boy Racers, The Premier League’s Most Amazing Moments.
