BBC’s Sherlock hitting Lat Am cinemas
Hit BBC drama Sherlock is getting a theatrical launch in Mexico after its distributor, BBC Worldwide, inked a deal with cinema chain Cinemex.
The same deal has seen an episode of Doctor Who – ‘The Husbands of the River Song’ – play in cinemas this week.
The Sherlock episode – The Abominable Bride – will start a three-day theatrical run today in Mexico.
The instalment of Sherlock originally went out as a 90-minute special on BBC One last Christmas.
“This agreement enables us to strengthen the relationship of BBC Worldwide with big fans of our most popular series, while allowing us to continue expanding the reach of our most popular content in a wide variety of points of contact with the audience, including digital platforms, cinemas, and retail stores,” said Anna Gordon, executive VP of BBC Worldwide Latin America and the US Hispanic market.
Worldwide has got several of its properties into cinemas in recent times, including Shakespeare Live! From the RSC in the CIS region and Sherlock in China.
