BBC orders United States of Hate Islam doc
The BBC has greenlit United States of Hate: Muslims Under Attack, a one-off doc looking at US anti-Islamic groups as well as US Muslims who advocate a war on the west.
The film will be made by Pulse Films, the UK indie that hipster brand Vice Media recently bought.
UK pubcaster the BBC will put it out on BBC Three, its youth-skewed service, which is now online-only. The doc will be online on BBC Three from May 24.
The doc is set in Irving, Texas and Pulse has secured exclusive access to anti-Islamist groups Bomb Islam and BAIR (Bureau for American Islamic Relations), it also looks at groups including Nation of Islam who confront them.
“United States of Hate investigates Islamophobia and the tensions between communities which seem to be on the increase in America,” said Emma Cooper, creative director unscripted TV at Pulse Films.
“Irving serves as an example of the anxieties that can be seen elsewhere across the world – and we aim to add to the important conversations being had about religion and attitudes within our communities.”
