Cineflix adds to scripted team
Cineflix Media has recruited Brett Burlock as senior VP, scripted.
He joins from Lionsgate-backed producer Sea to Sky and will be a senior member of the Cineflix team, sourcing and developing scripted series and TV movies for the US, Canadian, and international markets.
Based in Toronto, he will also put together copros with Cineflix, and with third parties.
Prior to Sea to Sky, Burlock headed up scripted development for Take 5 and was the vice president of development for CTV where he worked on shows including The Bridge, Flashpoint and The Borgias.
Cineflix Media co-CEO Glen Salzman said: “Brett has the reputation for bringing together talented writers and producers to develop and produce must-have series for networks around the globe. He’s the perfect fit with our strategy to push further into the scripted space.”
Burlock added: “With its global distribution business and exciting strategic relationships with the likes of Participant Media and the UK’s Buccaneer Media, Cineflix is uniquely positioned to draw from an international talent pool to expand on the success of compelling series such as Gangland Undercover and Buccaneer’s Marcella.”
Cineflix is moving back into scripted having had mixed results with drama. It produced period crime series Copper and set up Cineflix Studios, with Peter Smith and Christina Wayne working on scripted projects.
Both left during a subsequent restructure in which the company said it was refocusing on unscripted programming in the US, Canada and the UK. At the time it noted that its scripted efforts would come through working with partners such as Buccaneer.
The firm has had positive results with the Tony Wood joint venture, and Buccaneer Media scored good ratings for ITV in the UK with noir drama Marcella. Cineflix has shopped the show to Netflix.
