Fox scoops UK Wolf Creek as Outcast goes big
Fox UK has bought Wolf Creek, the Australian series based on the eponymous horror movie series.
The deal hands Fox the UK rights to the six-part series, and the pay TV channel will launch it on August 30, in a 10pm slot.
Wolf Creek is distributed by Zodiak Rights, which struck the deal. It follows an American family touring the Outback, who are attacked by Mick Taylor, the same psychopath from the Wolf Creek movies.
It was produced by Screentime – like Zodiak Rights, part of the Banijay Group – and was Australian SVOD service Stan’s first original programme.
Toby Etheridge, head of programming, Fox UK, said: “Wolf Creek is a slick and tense psychological drama boasting gnarly thrills and heart-stopping tension.
“Fox is renowned for its high-quality horror hits including exorcism drama Outcast and the American Horror Story franchise, making Wolf Creek a perfect addition to our portfolio.”
In related Fox news, the channels group said the global launch of Robert Kirkman series Outcast has delivered 26 million viewers around the world.
The series, which is on Cinemax in the US, is produced by Fox International Studios and on the Fox pay channels around the world.
Fox did a day and date launch for the series having streamed it on Facebook and the Fox Play app ahead of its linear launch. That generated 18.7 million views.
Linear viewing highlights included 11.3 million views in Lat-Am and 3.6 million in Asia Pacific. Consolidated figures for Europe came in at 11.2 million views.
