Federation scoops rights to cybercrime drama
Federation Entertainment, the producer and distributor behind Netflix’s Marseille, has scooped the rights to Unit 42, a new Belgian cybercrime drama.
The series is made by Left Field Ventures. Ella Productions has the rights and retains them for Benelux and France, with Federation selling it in the rest of the world. The pair employed a similar model on another Belgian series The Break.
The first season of Unit 42 is in production for Belgium’s RTBF.
The 10x52mins series follows a police cybercrime unit, focusing on the efforts a male cop transferred to that division having been a homicide investigator, and his young and tech savvy female counterpart.
“This marks our second distribution venture with Ella Productions, and highlights the strength of our partnership,” said Lionel Uzan, managing director and co-founder, Federation.
“Unit 42 is a unique series that contains all the gritty elements to engage an audience, whilst exploring the subject of cybercrime which is very much at the forefront of concerns in today’s technological age. This series will no doubt appeal to a very broad demographic and global audience.”
