SMILF, Mating pilots attract Showtime
US premium cable channel Showtime has ordered a pair of racy comedy pilots.
The greenlights of SMILF and Mating (WT) were among a number of announcements that came from the network’s TCA tour event yesterday.
SMILF is based on Frankie Shaw’s semi-autobiographical short film of the same name and comes from Showtime and ABC Signature, while Mating is a half-hour project from Jason Katims (Parenthood) and Stu Zicherman (The Affair).
Shaw will write, direct, produce and direct SMILF, which is set in Boston and follows a single, 20-something whose desire for relationships, sex and a career collide with motherhood.
Michael London, Lee Eisenberg and Gene Stupnitsky are executive producers.
Mating stars Taran Killam (Saturday Night Live) as a recently divorced who married young and is completely unprepared for the frank, new world of dating. Zicherman is writer and executive producer, with Michelle Lee also as EP.
The project comes from Showtime, Universal Television and Katims’ True Jack Productions.
Showtime has also ordered a fifth season of Ray Donovan, and seventh and eighth runs of Homeland.
