Amazon brings drama with Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan
Amazon Prime Video has given the greenlight to a TV adaptation of the Tom Clancy-created Jack Ryan novel character.
John Krasinski (American Office) will play the titular character in Jack Ryan, which will run to ten episodes. Alec Bladwin, Harrison Ford, Ben Affleck and Chris Pine have all played movie adaptations of Ryan.
Skydance Television and Paramount have signed up to coproduce the show, which is projected to shoot in the US, Europe and Africa.
Carlton Cuse, Graham Roland, Michael Bay, Brad Fuller, Andrew Form, David Ellison, Dana Goldberg, Marcy Ross, Mace Neufeld and Lindsey Springer are among the high profile executive producers.
The series will follow Krasinski has he “uncovers a pattern of terrorist communications that launches him into the centre of a dangerous gambit with a new breed of terrorism that threatens destruction on a global scale”.
It’s not the first time Amazon has ordered a drama series based on a popular book character. It already shows Bosch, with Titus Welliver playing the cop of the title. Bosch has been renewed for a third season.
