Dutch net first to taste Bake-Off companion
Dutch pubcaster NPO has become the first broadcaster outside the UK to order a remake of The Great Bake Off companion series An Extra Slice.
The remake will be known as Smaakt Naar Meer and sit alongside the local version of Bake Off, Heel Holland Bakt, debuting on September 7.
The format is a studio show in which a presenter discusses the main talking point’s from the main show with guests and engages with the audience, who bring along their own bakes and creations.
The previous three seasons of the main show have seen audiences peak at a healthy 3.2 million (in the third).
MAX will produce Smaakt Naar Meer for the MAX on NPO programming strand, with FremantleMedia-owned Blue Circle producing Heel Holland Bakt.
The Bake Off format sees amateur bakers competing to impress a pair of judges and avoid elimination.
The British show, on BBC One, has been a huge ratings success, with the recent tenth season launch taking a massive 10.4 million viewers last month.
“With the fourth season of Heel Holland Bakt starting this weekend in the Netherlands, it is perfect timing to announce yet more international sales of the ever popular Bake Off format as well as our first sale of its counterpart An Extra Slice,” said Suzanne Kendrick, head of global format sales at the show’s distributor, BBC Worldwide.
Jan Slagter, CEO of NPO’s Omroep MAX said the new show would be a “tasty dessert” for viewers.
Internationally, the Love Productions-created format has been remake in 21 territories, including in France on M6, Italy via Discovery Networks and Germany, on ProSiebeSat.1.
