AMC sets Halloween launch for int’l horror net
AMC Networks International is launching a new horror net called Dark.
It will replace its Buzz net in Iberia the region when it rolls out at the end of the month.
The channel has secured shows including Starz series Ash vs. Evil Dead ahead of launch, and will be carried on the major pay platforms in Spain including the services operated by Movistar and Vodafone.
“The consumption of horror in Spain increased 19%, and is the favourite genre of millennials,” said Eduardo Zulueta, president of AMC Networks International Iberia and Latin America.
The Halloween launch will kick off with an Ash vs Evil Dead marathon. In November there will be dedicated movie strands given over to cannibalism-based films, haunted houses and creepy creatures.
“With the launch of Dark we spread the offer of pay TV platforms with a new brand focused in terror in all forms, with exclusive content as the acclaimed shows Ash vs. Evil Dead and movies like Wax, Eden Lake, The Toxic Avenger and Do Not Speak, among others.”
In the US, AMC operates the horror SVOD service Shudder. Internationally, the channel operator has two global brands, AMC and Sundance, with a raft of local and region-specific channels such as Dark sitting alongside these.
