SVOD net gets porn drama after Swedish Dicks
Scandinavian subscription video-on-demand service Viaplay’s latest original will be a ten-part drama about a film director who takes a job in the porn industry.
The commission of Veni Vidi Vici comes just over a month after Viaplay debuted its first original, the Lionsgate-sold Swedish Dicks, which has been given a second season.
The new series comes from Rafael Edholm and Santiago Gil (Love is a Drug), who co-write with the former also acting and producing for MTG Studios, a production arm of European broadcaster Modern Times Group.
Veni Vidi Vici explores the consequences of a struggling Danish film director who takes a job in adult entertainment, and is soon forced into a double life that endangers his family.
Thomas Bo Larsen (Follow the Money) plays the lead role, with Edholm, Livia Millhagen, Michael Segerström and Michael Wincott (Westworld) also comprising the lead cast.
“This is our edgiest original series so far and a milestone on our journey to become the Nordic region’s leading producer of original content,” said Jakob Mejlhede, MTG’s executive VP and head of programming and content development.
“There’s a huge appetite for complex drama, and Veni Vidi Vici will be a captivating experience for both Nordic and international audiences.”
Besides Veni Vidi Vici and Keanu Reeves crime procedural Swedish Dicks, MTG Studios has also produces Ola Rapace-starring Nordic noir Hassel, feature film biopic SuperSwede, and kids series The Experiment, which debuts on Viaplay on December 1.
Veni Vidi VIci debuts exclusively on Viaplay in spring 2017.
