BBC parodies Making a Murderer with spoof

The BBC has commissioned Sexy Murder, a six-part comedy that spoofs true crime hits such as Making a Murderer, The Jinx and Serial.

The series will play on the UK pubcaster’s online youth-skewed net BBC Three, and star Rich Fulcher (The Mighty Boosh) as a US ‘televisionary’ and ‘truth crusader’ who travels to Britain with the idea of importing his brand of investigative reporting.

UK indie Roughcut will make the show. “Roughcut, as well as having a growing sitcom business, is embracing fast turnaround short form projects like BBC Three’s Sexy Murder,” said the prodco’s founder, Ash Attalla. “It’s brilliant and silly and is a way of comedically reflecting the shows everyone is talking about.”

BBC Three controller Damian Kavanagh said: “I’ve said it before, I’ll say it again, BBC Three is the home of the best, brightest and most innovative British comedy around today.”

The series will launch on BBC Three on October 31, and be carried on the channel’s site and on the BBC iPlayer service.

It will also be available on YouTube, as BBC Three looks for the widest possible audience for its shows amid criticism its content can be hard to find.

Roughcut is the indie behind The Office and the The I.T. Crowd, and, more recently, critically acclaimed BBC Three show People Just Do Nothing.

The prodco has worked with Sky Vision and FremantleMedia International, but there isn’t an international distributor for Sexy Murder yet, a spokesman told TBI.
