Misselbrook to lead sales at Miramax Australia
US studio Miramax is promoting EMEA sales director Tom Misselbrook to lead its television distribution efforts in Australia and New Zealand, with a Lionsgate exec drafted in to replace him in the UK, TBI understands.
From January, Misselbrook will spearhead the Australian sales branch of Miramax in Sydney following three years at the company’s EMEA base in London, along with another exec.
Misselbrook joined Miramax in 2013 after working for BBC Worldwide, where he worked in scripted sales and coproductions. He has also previously held sales roles at Entertainment One Television.
Details are still being finalised, but it is understood Miramax is recruiting new staff in the Asia Pacific region, which a source described as a “key growth area” for the firm.
Replacing Misselbrook in London is Fabio Etienne-Tinchant, who is joining from Lionsgate, where he has been sales director since joining from ITV Studios Global Entertainment in June 2014.
Lionsgate has a replacement lined up, it is understood, but the company declined to comment.
Joe Patrick leads Miramax’s global TV sales efforts as executive VP, worldwide television. Misselbrook will likely report to him, though this has not been confirmed.
The news comes after Qatar-based beIN Media Group bought out the likes of Qatar Investment Authority and Colony Capital, who led a previous takeover in 2010, to become the new owner of Miramax in March.
The US studio distributes movies such as Reservoir Dogs and Good Will Hunting, and produces El Rey Network’s From Dusk Till Dawn TV remake. A remake of Martin Scorsese’s Gangs of New York is also still in development, with GK Films attached.
Miramax declined to comment, but well-placed sources confirmed the changes.
