Married at First Sight heads to France

French free-to-air broadcaster M6 has ordered a local version of edgy marriage format Married at First Sight.

The RTL-owned French channel will make the French version itself through its in-house Studio 89 division.

The show has proved popular on FYI and its sister net A&E in the US and is also currently going out on Channel 4 in the UK. The format sees relationship experts pair off ideal couples who then go on to get married upon their first ever meeting.

After six weeks together they have to decide whether to stay married or get divorced.

The French show will launch next month on the French net. Frederic de Vincelles, managing director of M6 Programmes, said: “We are delighted to be broadcasting such an incredible show, that is both a fascinating scientific and social experiment.”

Henrik Pabst, managing director of Red Arrow International, said: “We are delighted to see Married at First Sight continue its worldwide roll-out by travelling to France.

“After productions in nearly 25 countries, we hope it proves as successful with French audiences as it has done around the rest of the world.”

The show was originally created by Red Arrow’s Danish prodco Snowman for local broadcaster DR1.
