Caulton exiting TV3 for UK move
Veteran TV3 programming chief Mark Caulton is exiting the New Zealand-based broadcaster and moving his family to the UK.
Caulton has been with TV3 for 18 years, rising to his current post, director of programming at channel parent Mediaworks. However, he will swap New Zealand for the UK in the New Year.
During his four-year spell as programming chief at commercial broadcaster TV3 he launched The X Factor New Zealand and, more recently, a local version of Family Feud.
“It’s been an absolute pleasure and a privilege being part of the programming team at TV3 over the last 18 years,” said Caulton. “There’s literally never been a dull moment, and I count myself very fortunate to have worked alongside so many talented people.
“I’m immensely proud of the current team and what we’ve achieved, and I look forward to hearing of their continued success as I begin an exciting new chapter with my family.”
The news comes two months after Mediaworks named the long-serving Ben Quinn as head of acquisitions for the TV and digital networks, with Caulton relinquishing those duties,
At the same time Matt Barthow was appointed TV3 channel manager, handing him day-to-day channel management and have oversight of scheduling staff, and Lightbox exec David Hine became general manager of on-demand service 3NOW. Further to that, Jack Matthews succeeded Rod McGeoch as Mediaworks chairman.
The new-look team will now go forwards without Caulton.
“Mark has spent the best part of two decades at TV3 and has made a significant contribution during that time,” said Mediaworks chief content officer Andrew Szusterman.
“His expertise in so many areas of the business will be truly missed. I can’t thank him enough for all he has done. We wish Mark, Karen and the family all the best with their move to the UK.”
