Singtel fined by regulator
Singtel has been fined S$145,000 (US$101,577) for two incidents in which a group of channels on its IPTV platform went dark.
The pay TV platform faced the censure after one-hour-plus outages affecting the group of channels.
The local communications regulator, the Infocomm Media Development Authority (IMDA), duly investigated and levied the fine.
Technical problems were blamed for the outages and Singtel was fined S$55,000 for the first incident and a further S$90,000 for the second.
“SingNet did not have a robust process to test that the receiver card was functional,” the IMDA said. It noted SingTel has put in place measures to ensure the outages do not happen again.
It also said: “In determining the financial penalties, IMDA took into consideration factors such as SingNet’s response to the incidents, the extent of the disruptions and its track record.”
