Ex-ID exec creates Momentum with new prodco
Former Investigation Discovery exec Christina Douglas has launched a production company, with the indie of former Zodiak Media exec Geno McDermott backing it.
Douglas has created Momentum Content, which will develop and produce unscripted programming.
She had spent a decade with Discovery Communications-owned true crime network ID, most recently in development. There she created hundreds of hours of content, including The 1980s: The Deadliest Decade, Evil Lives Here and Evil Stepmothers.
Blackfin, the New York-based indie McDermott launched in 2014 with Joanne Inglott, has invested in Momentum, with the new companies entering into an overall coproduction deal.
This will see Douglas working up unscripted programming that Momentum and Blackfin will coproduce in the US, Canada and UK.
Douglas and Blackfin worked together on I Am Homicide, which was one of ID’s highest-rating series of 2016.
Furthermore, Douglas will relocate to Blackfin’s office in New York’s Financial District, and work closely with company CEO McDermott. Both will be executive producers on all series for their pact.
“Geno’s innate storytelling sensibility, exceptional visual style, and dedication to producing premium quality content matches my vision for Momentum,” said Douglas. “I am beyond excited to bring our new, bold projects to the market in 2017.”
Since launching more than two years ago, Blackfin has produced dozens of hours for US cable. In recent months it has shopped more 30 hours of programming, and is currently producing a second season of I Am Homicide. It has received three unannounced series greenlights from Discovery, History Channel and ID.
WME IMG will represent Momentum, and already does the same for Blackfin.
