BBCWW strikes 600-hour Amazon India deal

Hey-Duggee-Iconic_Without-Logo.jpgBBC Worldwide has shopped a huge package of BBC content to Amazon for its recently-launched Prime streaming service in India.

The programming is in the popular factual and preschool kids categories.

Several kids shows will be heading into the Indian market for the first time under the terms of the deal, including CBeebies’ Clangers, Dinopaws and Hey Duggee.

Factual titles include Gandhi, The World’s Weirdest Weapons and The Genius of Inventions.

Amazon launched its OTT service in India last month as part of a wider global rollout. It has been buying movies, series and kids shows for the Indian service, as it seeks to beat Netflix and local players such as Hooq in India.

“We are very humbled by the positive response from customers to Prime Video and we are confident that the BBC’s programmes will resonate with customers,” said Nitesh Kripalani, director and country head, Amazon Prime Video India. “We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with BBC Worldwide.”

“In the last year or so, we have seen digital consumption in India increase exponentially,” added Myleeta Aga, senior VP and GM of India, BBC Worldwide.
