Jenny RamirezTurner has hired former Core Media Group exec Jenny Ramirez as VP, unscripted programming, at US cable entertainment nets TBS and TNT.

She joins from American indie Irwin Entertainment, where she was senior VP, development and co-executive producer on a range of specials for broadcast network NBC.

Based out of Turner’s LA office, she will oversee unscripted development for TBS and TNT, and report to Michael Bloom, TBS and TNT’s SVP, unscripted programming and specials.

Prior to Irwin, which produces New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly and the Red Nose Day charity special, she was SVP, development and production at Core, which is part of the 21st Century Fox and Apollo Global Management joint venture that owns Endemol Shine Group.

She had joined Core as only its second hired member, and went on to become in-house development showrunner, developing and selling shows such as Sing it On for Pop and Hair-Jacked for another Turner channel, TruTV.

She also worked at FremantleMedia North America’s non-scripted development unit for six years, working on projects for TBS, Fox, NBC, A&E, MTV and Syfy.

“Jenny is an exceptional development executive with a successful track record across the spectrum of unscripted and non-fiction genres,” said Bloom. “Along the way, she’s built top-shelf relationships with some of the best creators in the industry.

“She will be an extremely valuable member of our team as we re-imagine the unscripted/non-fiction universe and create and launch successful multi-platform content for TBS & TNT.”

The hire comes soon after Turner appointed Karina Kogan as SVP, digital media at TBS and TNT, as part of its plan to transform the cable channels, which has also involved buying advisory firm BraVe Ventures and naming its founders David Beck and Jesse Redniss as leaders of a new internal business strategy unit.
