TBS bolsters originals focus as Wolkis rises
US cable channel TBS has promoted Turner veteran David Wolkis to senior VP as its ups its focus on original programming.
Wolkis (pictured) has been named SVP, production for TBS originals, a role in which he will continue to manage production for the network’s original shows.
His promotion the latest in a series of moves at TBS and sister net TNT. Last week Turner promoted Michael Quigley to an executive VP position, while former Core Media Group exec Jenny Ramirez was recently brought in as VP, unscripted programming.
Based in LA, Wolkis will now also focus on “enhancing and developing” the Conan O’Brien franchise through more Conan Without Borders specials and new initiatives.
Wolkis will continue reporting to Mark Weissman, SVP of production for TBS and sister channel TNT. This past year, he has worked on new comedies such as Angie Tribeca, The Detour, Search Party and Full Frontal with Samantha Bee, all of which have resonated with 18-49-year-old demos.
“David is a strategic and innovative executive who has built strong relationships with the talent and production teams behind TBS’s original series,” said Weissman. “Through his work this past year, he made significant contributions to the launch of our new slate of TBS originals, all of which have turned out to be critically acclaimed hits.”
Wolkis has been with Turner since 200, originally joining as an accounting assistant for TNT originals. He joined the original production team eleven years ago, and has since worked on series such as Franklin & Bash, Dallas and Ground Floor.
