NBC’s unscripted supremos to keynote at MIPTV
The head of unscripted at NBC, Paul Telegdy, and boss of the broadcaster’s new unscripted studio, Meredith Ahr, will give a keynote at MIPTV next month.
Telegdy and Ahr are expected to talk about new talent-led reality series coming out of Universal Television Alternative Studio, which was set up last year with Ahr at the helm.
The US broadcaster is on a hot streak with its unscripted output, with The Voice, America’s Got Talent and American Ninja Warrior continuing to perform, and newer shows Little Big Shots and The Wall launching strongly.
Telegdy, who was previously at BBC Worldwide, has overseen the unscripted resurgence and was rewarded woth a promotion to president, alternative and reality group last year.
The first shows out of the Universal Television Alternative Studio include shiny floor competition series World of Dance, with Jennifer Lopez and her Nuyorican prodco.
At least two more big-name talent-led projects are understood to be almost ready to announced, and Telegdy and Ahr will talk about new programmes and the new unit in Cannes.
Ahr, who reports to Telegdy, was executive VP of alternative before landing her new role last year. She has been tasked with working up unscripted hits across all shiny floor, ob-doc and reality genres.
The new studio wants to supply NBC and third parties, with its international distribution arm selling the properties internationally (although The Wall is distributed by Endemol Shine Group).
TBI editor Stewart Clarke will moderate the keynote, which will take place at 5.20pm local time on the Monday of the market (April 3).
