Canal+ meets eOne’s Cardinal before Cannes
French pay TV broadcaster Canal+ has acquired Entertainment One Television’s drama thriller Cardinal.
The Sierra Films and eOne-produced series was created in association with Canada’s CTV and is based on Giles Blunt’s novel series.
The 6x60mins season one stars Billy Campbell (The Killing) as a detective investigating the murder of a teenage girl.
Canal+ has become the latest buyer, following the BBC in the UK and C More in Scandinavia, which saw it become its largest rating foreign drama.
CTV has commissioned seasons two and three after strong ratings there, the first time the commercial network has done.
eOne Television International has been shopping the series throughout 2017, and this will be its first time at MIPTV.
Season two goes into production this summer in Ontario, with the third following in the autumn.
Super Écran commissioned the series for French-language broadcast in Canada.
