Movistar+ appoints distribution partners
Movistar+ has announced About Premium Content, BetaFilm and Sky Vision the distributors of a trio of its new premium dramas.
The Spanish pay TV and SVOD operator is moving heavily into original drama and will sink €70 million a year into scripted.
It has now got sales partners for three upcoming projects: Sky Vision will distribute La Peste, Beta will distribute La Zona and About Premium Content will distribute Gigantes.
Movistar+ is owned by telco Telefónica and Telefónica Group Latin American television operations will have preferential options to buy the series in question.
“For La Peste, La Zona and Gigantes, three of our flagship projects, the choice of a distributor to market each title has not been an easy task,” said Domingo Corral, Movistar+ original programming managing director.
“We have assessed several factors such as experience, solvency or international penetration capacity, but what tipped the balance was witnessing how each one of the Corporations fell in love with their respective projects.”

Beta Film’s executive VP acquisitions & sales Christian Gockel said: “We believe that La Zona is one of the most exciting shows coming from Spain this year. The international market is high demanding innovative and unusual shows. La Zona being an eco- crime-thriller with strong character plot´s and mainly exteriors shootings do the unusual high budget will for sure catch viewers around the globe.”
