Hulu adapts horror-fantasy comic for TV
US streaming service Hulu has greenlit a one-hour pilot of comic property Locke and Key.
The fantasy-cum-horror comic follows three siblings who, after the murder of their father, move to their ancestral home to find magical keys give them powers and abilities.
Dirk Gently prodco IDW Entertainment is attached to produce the pilot, which carries the same name as the comics, with Carlton Cuse (Lost, Jack Ryan) named showrunner.
Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange) will direct and exec-produce. Cuse, Lindsey Springer, IDW Media Holdings CEO Ted Adam, IDWE president David Ozer and Joe Hill also executive produce.
IDW moved into TV production in 2013, while Hulu has been gaining ground on Netflix and Amazon in the US streaming race through original series such as 11/22/63 and ITV coproduction Harlots.
Earlier this month Hulu bagged US rights to upcoming Canadian drama Pure.
