Lifetime to tell Berlanti’s ‘twisted love story’
US cable channel Lifetime is going straight-to-series on “the most twisted love story ever”, which hails from Supergirl producer Greg Berlanti (pictured) and Sera Gamble.
You will be a ten-episode drama centred on “a relationship between two people that gets taken too far”.
It is based on Caroline Kepnes’ novel of the same name about a bookstore manager who crosses paths with an aspiring writer, whose charming and awkward crush quickly becomes a dangerous obsession.
Berlanti Productions and Alloy Entertainment are coproducing in association with Warner Horizon Television and A+E Studios. Berlanti and Gamble executive-produce along with Sarah Schechter, Leslie Morgenstein and Gina Girolamo. It wasn’t immediately clear whether Warner Bros. Television or A+E (or a combination of both) will shop the show internationally.
“You is the most twisted love story ever,” said Lifetime executive VP and head of programming Liz Gateley. “A romantic thriller centred around a relationship between two people that gets taken too far, the series explores the line between passion and obsession. In the amazingly talented hands of Greg and Sera, we know this project will be special.”
Producer Berlanti is currently producing CBS’s Supergirl, The CW quartet DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, Riverdale, Arrow and The Flash, and NBC’s Blindspot. He is also behind CW pilot Black Lightning.
In related news, Lifetime’s A+E Networks sister network History has commissioned docu-series Bud Dynasty, a 7x30mins show following intrepid entrepreneurs navigating Canada’s controversial, but thriving cannabis industry.
Shooting got underway yesterday in Vancouver at a 4/20 event (420 is a code word for cannabis consumption that is celebrated on April 20 each year around the world).
This comes after Canada’s government voted to legalise marijuana by July 2018.
