TV One orders true crime original
US cable net TV One has greenlit Evidence of Innocence, a true crime series in which civil rights attorney Benjamin Crump looks at stories of individuals who were convicted of crimes they didn’t commit.
3815 Media and Jupiter Entertainment are making the series, the latest in an ongoing raft of true crime shows coming out of the US.
Tia Smith, senior director of original programming and production at African American-skewed TV One said: “These stories of redemption after going through horrific circumstances are certain to encourage viewers to face their own personal challenges with renewed resolve.”
Crump is best known as Trayvon Martin’s attorney. “We are honoured to work with him to host the show and utilise his personal experiences to provide context drawn from many years of defending the rights of the Black community,” said TV One President Brad Siegel.
3815 Media’s Rushion McDonald, currently executive producer of The Steve Harvey Show, will produce the series. “This show is different from any other true crime show. Even though these persons received the blunt end of a bad deal, their stories are inspiring,” he said.
