The CW pairs Dynasty with Riverdale
The CW is pairing key new US broadcast dramas Valor and Dynasty with existing high-profile Warner Bros.-produced series.
Valor, one of a spate of new military- or elite police-themed dramas coming to the 2017/18 network season, has landed a 9pm Monday slot. It will receive lead-in from DC Universe superhero series Supergirl.
Soap reboot Dynasty, meanwhile, is paired with high school melodrama Riverdale.
The latter, based on the Archie Comics stories and from prolific producer Greg Berlanti, debuted last year and outperformed other freshman series such as Frequency and No Tomorrow, both of which were recently cancelled.
The CW is leaving upcoming another Berlanti-helmed DC Universe series, Black Lightning, to midseason, along with the female-skewed Life Sentence, which stars Lucy Hale (Pretty Little Liars) as a woman finds out that she does not have terminal cancer, as she has told for many years previously.
The CW has renewed numerous shows, including Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, iZombie, Jane the Virgin, Supernatural and The Originals.
Besides Frequency and No Tomorrow, the other high profile cancellation is teen-themed period drama Reign.
Other announcements coming from the CBS Corp.- and Warner Bros.-owned CW include the original Dynasty from the 1980s and drama Everwood, which Berlanti produced for The WB between 2002 and 2006, joining digital platform CW Seed.
