HBO renews Veep and Silicon Valley
They may not get huge ratings, but HBO’s Veep and Silicon Valley are regarded as two of the best scripted series on TV right now, so it’s no real surprise that the premium pay TV channel has decided to reward them with new seasons.
Veep, created by Armando Iannucci, has been given a seventh season commission despite a significant drop in audience for season six. That, however, needs to be weighed against the fact that the show has so far picked up an impressive eleven Emmys.
Silicon Valley, meanwhile, will return for a fifth run in 2018 – despite having also experienced a ratings slide this year. The show takes a comic look at the modern-day epicentre of the high-tech gold rush, where the people most qualified to succeed are the ones least capable of handling success.
Both shows were recommissioned by HBO Programming president Casey Bloys, who took over his post in January 2016.
