AMC eyes dramas from Fear, Humans scribes
US cable network AMC is developing a trio of dramas from writers with credits on Fear the Walking Dead, Hell on Wheels and Humans.
Writers’ rooms have been opened for Jami O’Brien’s NOS4A2, Sam Vincent and Jonathan Brackley’s Pandora and Claire Carré and Charles Spano’s Silent History.
O’Brien is known for work on AMC dramas Hell on Wheels and Fear the Walking Dead, while Vincent and Brackley worked on Humans, which is an AMC coproduction with Channel 4 in the UK. Carré and Spano are known for Embers.
The three projects are being considered under AMC’s ‘scripts-to-series’ model, which the basic cable channel used to commission Pierce Brosnan vehicle The Son and upcoming drama Lodge 49.
This sees the network bypass the pilot process, and instead open writers’ rooms that develop several episode scripts and a detailed first season arc before a decision on a full order is made.
NOS4A2 pronounced Nosferatu) is an AMC Studios and Tornante coproduction based on Joe Hill’s novel of the same name. It follows a woman attempting to track down a superhuman child abductor who has taken her son to his ‘playground of amusements’, Christmasland.
Pandora is an AMC Production, with Jane Featherstone’s Sister Pictures also attached. The global mystery-thriller follows three converging storylines of individuals trying to piece together dark secrets leaked after advanced malware dismantles encryption across the world.
Silent History, again from AMC Studios, is based on an app and novel titled The Silent History, which is from Eli Horowitz, Matthew Derby and Kevin Moffatt.
The show follows how the world reacts to a growing group of evolved children who are born without the ability to create or comprehend language, but have other surprising skills.
“We look forward to diving deep into these three distinctive projects and opening writers’ rooms that allow our talented creative partners to take their visions to the next level,” said Charlie Collier, president of AMC, SundanceTV and AMC Studios.
“It’s gratifying to have Jami, Sam and Jonathan, who have been so important to AMC’s success through their previous work, bring new projects to the network. We also welcome and look forward to working with Claire and Charles as they explore their unique take on an exciting world.”
The news comes in the same month it was revealed AMC and SundanceTV president of original programming Joel Stillerman was moving to VOD service Hulu as chief content officer.
