NCIS named ‘most watched’ drama series again
US procedural NCIS has been named the most-watched drama series for the eighth year in a row, according to research by Eurodata TV Worldwide.
The CBS series garnered 47 million viewers worldwide in 2016. It received its twelfth International Television Audience Award for drama TV series at the 57th Monte-Carlo Television Fesitval last night (June 20, 2017).
The annual International Audience Award is presented jointly by the Monte-Carlo Television Festival and Eurodata TV Worldwide. It rewards programs that delivered the highest ratings in 2016 worldwide across five continents, in three categories: drama TV series, comedy TV series and telenovelas/soap operas.
Another CBS scripted series, The Big Bang Theory, took home the most-watched comedy title. It amassed 39.1 million views last year, beating off ABC’s Modern Family and Ukrainian series Svaty.
On the telenovela/soaps front, syndicated American series The Bold and the Beautiful was the winner, with 13.1 million worldwide views. Beni Afflet from Turkey and Meri Aaashiqui Tume Se Hi from Indi were also nominated.
