Netflix acquires global rights to Dynasty reboot
Netflix has acquired global rights to The CW’s reboot of Dynasty for all international territories outside of the US.
This is one of the few times Netflix has acquired full international rights to a US broadcast show. The streaming giant acquired rights to another CW series, Riverdale, last year, though this did not cover every territory Netflix operates in.
Dynasty is produced by CBS Television Studios. It is executive produced by Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, Sallie Patrick, the original series’ creators Esther and Richard Shapiro and Brad Silberling, who directed the pilot.
The reboot of the soapy 1980s drama focuses on the lead character Fallon Carrington (Elizabeth Gillies) and her attempts to regain power after failing to get a promotion at her father’s global energy company.
CBS and Netflix recently struck a similar deal for Star Trek: Discovery, in which Netflix took exclusive SVOD rights in 188 territories minus the US and Canada, where it is on CBS All Access and CraveTV respectively.
Each episode of the upcoming sci-fi series will be available globally within 24 hours of its US premiere.
