US actors deal staves off Hollywood strike threat
The Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) struck an eleventh hour deal yesterday to stave off another Hollywood strike threat.
As Americans sat down to celebrate Thanksgiving yesterday, an agreement was struck following a long period of uncertainty between the two sides.
This means a new contract is in place until June 30, 2020, subject to expected approval from SAG-AFTRA’s board of directors and ratification from members.
The current contract between the pair expired last Friday, and had been extended until yesterday.
The deal will give actors and performers an additional US$256 million in the next three years, according to union reps.
The deal comes after AMPTP averted the threat of a separate strike in May, which writers union the WGA had threatened over conditions.
