The Real Housewives opens in Hungary
NBCUniversal International Formats has agreed its twelfth international deal for reality franchise, The Real Housewives, with leading broadcaster Sony Pictures Television Networks CE.
The 8×60’ series The Real Housewives of Hungary acts as the first remake for Central and Eastern Europe and will premiere on VIASAT3 later this year.
The Real Housewives franchise launched with The Real Housewives of Orange County, which debuted on America’s Bravo in 2006. Ten years on, there are now nine US versions of the series: Orange County, New York, Atlanta, New Jersey, DC, Beverley Hills, Miami, Potomac and Dallas.
In 2011, NBC Formats launched The Real Housewives format to buyers worldwide and since then, there have been a number of international versions produced in Toronto, Vancouver, Cheshire, Melbourne, Auckland, Sydney, France, Israel and Athens.
A one hour docu–drama, The Real Housewives provides an insight into the lifestyles of privileged and glamourous women in locations across the globe.
Hannah Worrall, VP, format sales & production, NBCUniversal International Formats said: “The Real Housewives brand has become a staple of lifestyle programming worldwide. Securing a significant reach in the US, the format has since grown to resonate with audiences both locally and internationally via its various original local versions.
“Now breaking into Central and Eastern Europe with Sony Pictures Television Networks CE, the brand looks set to continue its reputation of glamour, drama and wit with a dazzling new cast and we can’t wait to see the results.”
