eOne ups Newman as drama slate expands

Entertainment One (eOne) Television has promoted Carolyn Newman to senior VP level, as it expands its drama slate with new intellectual property.

Previously VP, Newman has been upped to SVP of scripted programming.

She will continue to oversee the Toronto-headquartered company’s US slate and lead acquisitions, coproductions and presales.

Newman’s promotion after as she acquired the TV rights to Amor Towles’ novel A Gentleman in Moscow. She will oversee the adaptation, with Tom Harper (War & Peace) attached to direct and Xavier Marchand of Moonriver Content on board to executive produce the project.

A Gentleman in Moscow is set in the Soviet Union in the 1920s.

It follows Count Alexander Rostov, an aristocrat who is forced to live in attic room after a Bolshevik tribunal places him under house arrest.

Newman joined eOne last August as VP of scripted programming, leaving Amazon Studios to take on the post.

At Amazon, she worked on series such as Bosch, Hand of God, Mad Dogs and Good Girls Revolt.

Before that, she worked at Sphere Media, where she developed and executive produced Canadian police drama 19-2.
