Foxtel studio partnerships chief Weir to exit
Deanna Weir, who oversees Australian pay TV platform Foxtel’s relationships with the US studios, is to leave her role.
Her exit comes a little over a year after she joined, and two weeks after Foxtel’s merger with Fox Sports was unveiled.
Aussie industry veteran Weir (pictured) was hired as executive director of channel aggregation and wholesale soon after Peter Tonagh was appointed Foxtel CEO.
Weir was in charge of deals with third-party content providers, including the US studios, to create ‘value-for-money packages’ for customers and creating new opportunities for advertisers.
She also worked on a major review of content strategy and a relaunch of streaming service Foxtel Now.
Foxtel director of television Brian Walsh and director of IT transformation Stephen Butler will assume her responsibilities, according to the Australian Financial Review, which first reported Weir’s departure.
Weir previously worked at Austar, which Foxtel took over in 2012. She then invested in a number of media companies Down Under, including Secrets & Lies prodco Hoodlum Entertainment, which is now coproducing Harrow with Disney-owned ABC International.
